The Estonian Smart Work Association, Elisa telecom and PARE, the Estonian Human Resource Management Association have announced the companies that qualified for the Telework Label 2017, and Idea is one of them. The label is awarded to companies who make good use of the possibilities of telecommuting.
Idea’s HR specialist Merilin Maanas said the agency is very pleased with the honour. “We’ve been supporting remote work possibilities at Idea’s agencies for quite some time. Today people are very mobile and want to work in an environment and a time that is right for them. I think that remote working has a good influence on creativity as well, which is one of the most important values for our agency and clients in general,” she said.
Head of Smart Work Association Ave Laas said 50 organizations received the label. “We’re very happy with the turnout and the fact that companies are making such active use of the possibilities of telework. Laas added that organizations who vie for the label came in all types of backgrounds and sizes and from all three sectors. “Telework is not only held in high regard in the IT sector; the label recipients also include insurers, recruitment and consultancies, and government and local government institutions. I think that the label will give employers a noteworthy advantage when competing to recruit workforce,” said Laas. The label competition jury included representatives Smart Work Association, Elisa Estonia telecom and PARE.
Elisa Estonia’s HR director Kaija Teemägi said the main issues currently are related to restrictions that keep employees from doing work outside a company’s offices. “Companies often face the question of how not to put employees in an unequal situation and what to do about those whose work is such that they can’t be flexible about where they do it. A solution has to be found for offering those employees alternative options for working in a more time and place-flexible manner. Another major bottleneck is technical solutions. “The manager or supervisor has to make sure that employees have good Internet connections no matter where they are performing duties of employment, access to the necessary work programmes and well-thought-through communication channels for keeping the lines open.”
Head of PARE Ene Olle, who also served on the jury, said it was important to make sure teleworkers don’t get isolated. “It shouldn’t be seen as an extreme situation but a natural part of the work process, where employees wouldn’t feel left out,” Olle said.
The list of label recipients is posted at smartwork.ee/kaugtootegija/. All these organizations can use the label on their websites and other materials. The site also includes a utility to verify whether label recipients by company name.
